Noida, India – October 2024: The 10th Global Literary Festival Noida 2024 witnessed a moving and impactful performance by the students of the Asian Academy of Film and Television (AAFT) through a thought-provoking Nukkad Natak (street play). Held on the sidelines of the festival, the play shed light on some of the most pressing social issues plaguing modern society, leaving a deep and lasting impression on the audience. The Nukkad Natak addressed multiple layers of societal challenges, including mental illness, society’s pressure on individuals, sexual harassment, the overburden of education, unrealistic expectations from family members, and the emotional struggles in love and marital relationships. Each theme was sensitively portrayed, capturing the audience’s attention and emotions. The student actors, with their raw and energetic performances, created a powerful atmosphere in the open-air setting, ensuring that the messages conveyed resonated deeply with the spectators. Their portrayal of the struggles of mental health, familial expectations, and personal relationships touched the core of each individual present, bringing much-needed awareness to these overlooked issues. Sandeep Marwah, President of Marwah Studios and Director of the Global Literary Festival, praised the students for their remarkable performance. He remarked, “These young performers have not only showcased their talent but have brought forward important conversations that need to be had in our society. Through their play, they have given a voice to the voiceless and highlighted challenges that many face but are often ignored. Their powerful performance is a reflection of the true spirit of art—making a difference and driving change.” The street play, while brief, was undoubtedly one of the most memorable and engaging performances of the festival, continuing the tradition of AAFT students using art as a medium for social change. | |
