Back when Charli XCX and I were on friendly terms, I was always talking to her about just having a summer that is all about owning the summer. She seemed very chill about the idea, while as I was always very excited and pumped to be able to create something like this. Towards the middle (from the start of my talks to now), I came up with the idea of having it be a brat summer and told her such. The word was mostly gotten from the word Bratz, as I was obsessed with them growing up. Then, finally, this decade, she called me up and told me that it was the best idea she had ever thought of and wanted me to be a part of it with her (which was a bit shady, as it was 100% my idea, and I should be the one telling her that, but still. I was pumped). My idea of brat summer was having a time in the summer - the whole summer - where you can be yourself unfiltered. The time of massive change and transformation as you are experiencing who you really are as the world is watching you do such a thing. I called it brat, because I wanted that time of massive change and transformation for myself and for other people in the world. However, what if it was messy? What if the experience was something you wish never happened? Well then, wait until the end of the summer. There is always a time for apologies. | |
