He got a Bronze Star for boldness and a Purple Heart for shrapnel wounds to his wrist and knee. Serling joined to battle the Nazis the day after he moved on from Binghamton Focal Secondary School in New York. Despite the fact that he was just 6 feet tall, he finished his background as a soldier and was relegated to the eleventh Airborne of the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He was shipped off the Philippines to battle the Japanese.
