John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. (Many, including Pilate want to know “what is truth”? Truth is reality, truth is God’s word, something man cannot change). John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (Some would ask, what is the word)? John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (We are told in this verse and the following verse what and who the word is). John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (The word is Jesus Christ, God in the flesh). He can't lie or go back on His word like some humans do! Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (God/Jesus Christ cannot lie. We humans can lie). God does not like lying! Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. (Can we humans lie? Of course we humans can and do tell a lie occasionally; thus the following commandment (#9) to us from God). Who is the father of lying? John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (Satan is the “father of lies” in that he is the original liar. Satan told the first lie in recorded history to Eve, in the Garden of Eden. After planting seeds of doubt in Eve’s mind with a question (Genesis 3:1), he directly contradicts God’s Word by telling her, “You will not certainly die” (Genesis 3:4). With that lie, Satan led Eve to her death; Adam followed, and so have we all. Lying is Satan’s primary weapon against God’s children. He uses the tactic of deceit to separate people from their heavenly Father. Some of his more common lies are “there is no God,” “God doesn’t care about you,” “the Bible cannot be trusted,” and “your good works will get you into heaven.” The apostle Paul tells us that Satan “masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14), so that what he says and does sounds good and seems reasonable. But it is nothing more than a false appearance). Keep studying the Bible my friends as we are commanded to do. Supplement what you might learn elsewhere. These are only a few of the many verses throughout the word of God concerning this subject (truth, lying and liars). You should investigate these subjects much deeper for your own good. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. | |
