Read this completely for at least one answer. All quoted verses come from a KJV Bible. I believe God exists. In fact, I know God exists! I have known that pretty much my whole life; I've never felt it necessary to question His existence. If the non-believer were to ask me how I know God exists, could I prove He exists? No. I could quote some scripture, maybe share a personal testimony/experience, etc. I'm pretty sure that would only encourage more questions as to why I believe in the first place. At present I'm not sure I could come up with a credible answer. Maybe I should ask them, can you prove He doesn't exist? They couldn't prove that either. So, what are we left with? Believers and non-believers with no one being able to prove anything basically. If there is anyone out there that feels they have proof of existence or non-existence, please share that proof with me. A better question might be, why do you choose to believe He doesn't exist? If they actually knew and were truthful with their answer, that would be very revealing indeed. Right now I believe a truthful answer would involve not wanting to be accountable to Him; I believe this to be based on unfounded fear. If they admit God exists, then they have to admit they are God’s creation and will be eventually accountable to Him. Many are afraid to face Him because of past and present actions (abortion and homosexuality are two examples that come to mind). Matthew 12:31 says” Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men”. What does the word “all” mean? “All” manner of sin shall be forgiven unto us humans except one sin which is blasphemy of God’s Holy Spirit; different subject for a different day. The truth of God’s word is not shared with those that need to hear that truth. Thus, many are driven away from God instead of towards Him. One of the reasons so many are afraid, as stated previously, is they have heard true Christianity misrepresented to them (due to biblical illiteracy). Another reason is many just don't want to change their actions in any case. So, we have to go back to the original question. Why do so many choose to believe and say God doesn’t exist? Eventual accountability is usually why. But, true believers embrace eventual accountability to God, they look forward to it. Another reason is some even try to replace God with natural things such as animals or mans ideas such as evolution. This is their main reason for denial of God. See Romans 1:18-23. In any case, if someone admits God does exist, then they have to admit they will be accountable to Him. My question: If someone denies that God exists, does that mean He doesn't exist? No. Why do so many go to so much trouble to deny God exists when they claim to think He doesn't exist in the first place? Eventual accountability to Him is the main reason. They just want to do whatever and whenever without accountability to anyone. Fear is what drives them. My advice would be: be careful what you ask for because you will get it. Some non-believer tactics: Anger, intimidation and scoffing at a believer are used in many cases; an example would be the scientist Richard Dawkins. Some criminals when caught by law enforcement resort to acting very childish thinking this will get them out of being held responsible/accountable for their actions; bad choice! Does it really make any difference though? None at all. God still exists, everyone is accountable to Him in the end, He's in control, He's eternal and a mere human opinion can't change that. All of us will eventually die then we are judged. See Hebrews 9:27. Only someone that truly cares for you will share the truth with you. What you do with that truth after you hear it is up to you. Please try listening to the speeches of this gentleman, John Lennox. He is a Professor of mathematics at Oxford university. He is a scientist that truly believes in God. See johnlennox.org and his videos on YouTube. See videos on Ravi Zacharias as well. Food for some last thoughts: I believe in God because I lovingly respond to God’s invitation to believe in him. There is nothing magical about this, for it is completely real. I love God dearly and I wish to learn more about him each and every day, and I do so by doing my very best, through God’s grace, to imitate him. My belief in God is not governed by “have to,” but instead, “I want to.” Jesus invites, and I respond. It is a true mystery to me why some people choose not to believe in God! I’m sure there are many reasons why some make that choice; I would truly like to hear some of those reasons. | |
