Feed your spirit!

The headline reads on a so-called Christian news website: What is spiritual malnutrition and how do we fix it? Read below for your answer.

Physical nourishment is not sufficient for a healthy life; man also has spiritual needs, we must feed our spirits, daily if possible. You have probably heard the phrase “You are what you eat”, and it is usually a statement that is made in reference to earthly food, not spiritual food. However, it can also be applied to the things we “feed” our spirits on a daily basis. The foods we eat are responsible for sustaining our physical bodies and allowing us to maintain good health. Likewise, the prosperity of our souls depend directly on our spiritual food choices. In other words, what we put in our minds by way of our eyes, our ears, and the things that come out of our mouths, have the potential to nourish or starve us spiritually. Will your spirit be temporary or eternal? As Believers, we must be sure we are constantly feeding our spirits the right things. The right things/truth, only comes from God’s Word. The right things/truth doesn’t come from mans traditions.

Deuteronomy 8:3 (KJV) And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

Matthew 4:4 (KJV) But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. [You can't nourish your spirit with earthly food, just the word of God].

Matthew 5:6 (KJV) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. [Are you hungry for spiritual food? If you are, then you are truly blessed].

John 6:50 (KJV) This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. [You will not die spiritually if you feed your spirit God's word in a sufficient manner].

John 6:51 (KJV) I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. [The only way our spirits can live forever is by feeding them Jesus Christ, the living bread, the word].

Question: What happens to your spirit if it is not properly nourished?

F. F. Bosworth once said, “Most Christians feed their flesh bodies three square meals each day but only feed their spirits one cold snack each week...Then they wonder why they are so weak in faith". You'll eventually starve your spirit that way.

Nurturing our relationship with God by Rose-Ann Durant January 2, 2023
(She uses the analogy of taking care of young plants in her article to show how we need to nourish our spirits as well).
Study the whole word of God by studying some each day, if possible. Supplement what you may learn in church. Nourish your spirit with God's truths; don't let your spirit suffer starvation.
